PE and Sport Premium Impact and Sustainability Statement 2025–26

During 2025–26, St Paul’s CofE Primary School & Nursery used the PE and Sport Premium to significantly increase children’s access to physical activity, sport, competition and enrichment.

Extra-curricular opportunities

The school funded or subsidised seven outdoor or sports-based clubs every week throughout the academic year.

Each club offered up to 20 subsidised or fully funded places, creating a substantial number of affordable sporting opportunities across the week.

This enabled children to participate regardless of family circumstances and helped remove financial barriers to sport and physical activity. The range of clubs also gave children opportunities to try new activities, develop confidence and remain physically active beyond curriculum PE.

Equipment and resources

The school invested significantly in equipment and resources designed to increase the range of physical activity available to children throughout the school day.

Investment included Teqball, table tennis, table football, basketball equipment, outdoor games and a wide range of smaller sporting resources including balls and bats.

These resources have broadened opportunities beyond traditional PE lessons and enabled children to be physically active during breaktimes, lunchtimes, clubs and structured sporting activities.

The investment has created a more varied and inclusive physical activity offer, giving children different ways to participate according to their interests, confidence and physical needs.

The equipment will continue to be used in future years, making this a sustainable improvement to the school’s sporting provision.

Competitive sport and wider experiences

Funding supported children to participate in sporting events beyond the school, including swimming galas, football events and other competitive opportunities.

These experiences enabled children to represent St Paul’s, compete alongside children from other schools and experience the excitement, challenge and teamwork associated with competitive sport.

For many children, these opportunities provided memorable experiences that they may not otherwise have accessed and helped develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a sense of belonging.

The school also supported transport to appropriate sporting and extra-curricular events, helping ensure that practical barriers did not prevent children from taking part.

Partnership working

St Paul’s joined the local schools PE federation, strengthening links with other schools and increasing access to sporting events, competition, expertise and collaborative opportunities.

This partnership supports the continued development of PE and school sport and ensures that the school remains connected to wider opportunities within the local area.

Inclusion and equal access

The school deliberately used Sports Premium funding to improve access to physical activity and sport for children with SEND, children with long-term medical needs, girls and disadvantaged children.

Subsidised and free club places, inclusive resources and supported access to sporting events helped reduce barriers to participation.

The school’s approach is that sporting opportunities should not be limited by additional need, financial circumstances, confidence or previous sporting experience.

Impact

Sports Premium funding has:

• increased the number of children able to access extra-curricular sport and physical activity
• reduced financial barriers through subsidised and free club places
• considerably broadened the range of physical activities available during the school day
• increased opportunities for children to take part in competitive sport
• enabled children to represent their school and experience sporting events beyond St Paul’s
• strengthened partnership working with other local schools
• increased opportunities for children with SEND, disadvantaged children, girls and children with additional medical needs
• supported children’s confidence, teamwork, resilience, physical development and enjoyment of being active.

Sustainability

A significant proportion of the investment during 2025–26 has created benefits that will continue beyond the year in which the funding was received.

The range of sports and physical activity equipment purchased will remain available for children in future years and will continue to support active play, clubs and structured physical activity.

Membership of the local schools PE federation provides an ongoing network for competition, collaboration and access to wider sporting opportunities.

The school will continue to review participation and children’s interests when planning future provision, with a particular focus on maintaining affordable access and ensuring that children who may experience barriers to participation are actively supported.

St Paul’s remains committed to giving children a broad range of sporting opportunities and experiences so that every child has the opportunity to participate, develop confidence and enjoy being physically active.
